Microsoft Certifications – What should I do and why?

By Sunil Punjabi of SEO-SEM Professionals

Tim Berners Lee once said: “When it comes to professionalism, it makes sense to talk about being professional in IT. Standards are vital so that IT professionals can provide systems that last.” I think professionalism needs to take on a whole new meaning when it comes to the IT tech. We all know of those so-called Computer techs, who really don’t know what they are doing and just come in and mess things up, then to top it all off they charge through the roof. Or they take a job, and need the others to handle most of their workload because they just don’t know what is going on.

What makes an IT a professional?

In the IT industry nothing speaks more of your professionalism, than being certified. Some professionals have one certification. Others have 4 or 5 Microsoft certifications, even from different categories in Microsoft Certification. It doesn’t really matter whether you have one Certification or four Certifications, what does matter is that you took the time to study, take the exam and get certified and that goes a long way in the IT industry.

Getting certified means you are totally qualified in a special area within the IT field, and a company knows that your certification represents your knowledge in the field. Most human resources are not It professionals. It may be hard for you to understand that not everybody is in IT, but a lot of people do not know as much as you do about computer technology. And that is a good thing! At least for you, because that means that companies need to hire people like you, but on interviews they don’t know what kinds of questions to ask you. But they don’t want to assume that the first person that walks in the door is qualified, just because the applicant says he is. And that is where Microsoft Certification Professionals become important!

Microsoft certification in specialized computer fields shows an employer that you are a professional and that you are qualified within your field. This tells a human resources administrator that they don’t need to be an IT expert to hire the right person for the job. They just need to ensure that the job candidate has the right Microsoft certification for the position. When you become an MCP or Microsoft Certified Professional you have demonstrated that you are among the top in your field, and a large number of opportunities will open up to you.

What Steps do You Take in Certification?

First and foremost, decide on the right type of certification. There are a lot of different ones that cover different areas within the IT field. Look for some kind of experience within your field of interest. Before taking the certification course, you need to have some experience within the field. Once you have been working to some degree in the computer industry, you will want get certified. Then you will need to choose a study method. You can take a college class, a workshop or study online. Of the three options, most IT professionals choose to study online.

Why is studying online the best choice?

Taking a college course involves studying for the certification a whole semester, plus you have to go to classes at a certain hour, which may interfere with your work. Taking a workshop, or an IT boot camp as they are called is too fast, and too expensive. But studying online and taking the practice exams here, means you can go as fast as you want and study when you want.

Whichever Microsoft Certification you choose, the important thing is that you get the Certification you need, and stop putting it off. Open the doors to your success through Microsoft Certification Training.
